Interoutes at the NAPA Shipping Solutions Forum 2025: Digital Intelligence Meets Human Expertise

Athens, Greece - 13 March 2025

On Thursday 13 March 2025, the Interoutes team attended the NAPA Shipping Solutions Forum 2025 in Athens and this time, we weren't just in the audience. Our CEO, Savvina Giannioti, took the stage to address the forum on a topic that lies at the very core of what Interoutes does: the powerful intersection of digital intelligence and human expertise.

The NAPA Shipping Solutions Forum 2025, themed "Sailing into the Future: Cost-Effective Decarbonization Strategies for Bulker and Tanker Fleets," was specifically tailored to address the unique challenges and opportunities facing the Greek shipping market. The event brought together shipowners, operators, technology providers, and maritime professionals to explore how digital tools and data-driven solutions can support the industry's decarbonisation journey while maintaining commercial competitiveness.

NAPA, a Finland headquartered global leader in maritime software and digital services, has long been at the forefront of ship design, performance monitoring, and voyage optimisation. With over 90% of the world's annual newbuilding volume built by NAPA customers and hundreds of commercial vessels sailing with NAPA's operational solutions, the company is a driving force behind the digital transformation of shipping. Hosting a dedicated forum in Athens, the global capital of shipowning, was a clear recognition of Greece's pivotal role in the industry's future.

Savvina Giannioti's presentation explored a theme that Interoutes has championed since its founding in 2001: the conviction that the most effective maritime solutions are those that combine the power of modern digital tools with the irreplaceable judgement of experienced seafarers.

In an era of rapid technological advancement where artificial intelligence, machine learning, and real-time data analytics are transforming how vessels are routed and monitored, it can be tempting to assume that technology alone holds all the answers. Savvina's message was clear: digital intelligence is a transformative asset, but it reaches its full potential only when guided by human expertise.

At Interoutes, this is not an abstract philosophy, it is the foundation of our daily operations. Our team of experienced Greek captains, master mariners, and maritime experts works around the clock, using advanced meteorological data, digital ship modelling, and cutting edge routing algorithms to prepare optimised voyage plans. But every recommendation is reviewed, refined, and communicated by a human expert who understands the realities of life at sea, the unpredictability of weather systems, the nuances of a specific vessel's behaviour, and the operational pressures that captains face on the bridge.

This human to human approach is what has made Interoutes the number one weather routing company recommended by actual vessel captains and crew. It is what ensures that our routing advice is not only data driven but also practical, trustworthy, and immediately actionable.

Speaking at the NAPA Shipping Solutions Forum was especially significant for Interoutes given the close relationship between our two companies. Later in 2025, Interoutes and NAPA announced the launch of their joint Expert Route Monitoring service, an offering that merges NAPA's digital voyage optimisation platform with Interoutes' expert human consultancy. Successfully trialled with Fortius Ship Management on a 25-day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, the service delivered 16 tailored voyage plans and achieved notable fuel savings while ensuring safe and timely arrival.

The Athens forum was, in many ways, a preview of this partnership. A space where NAPA's digital vision and Interoutes' seafaring heritage came together in front of the Greek shipping community that both companies serve.

The timing and location of the forum were no coincidence. Greek shipowners control the world's largest merchant fleet, and they are at the forefront of the industry's twin transitions: digital and environmental. With the CII (Carbon Intensity Indicator) index now in effect and the IMO's 2050 carbon neutrality target on the horizon, Greek operators are actively seeking solutions that deliver real efficiency gains without compromising safety or commercial performance.

The NAPA Shipping Solutions Forum 2025 was a proud moment for the entire Interoutes team. Having our CEO invited to speak alongside leading maritime technology and industry figures was a recognition of the unique position Interoutes holds, at the meeting point of tradition and innovation, where digital intelligence and human expertise converge.
